Theme 117 - Mountain

High Pike

This is part of Rydal Fell and is 656 metres.  A beautiful cold sunny day.

Lucky you, getting snow! In Devon, we got about 10 seconds' worth of flakes over Easter! What a view though, it's wonderful!

I have to go look up the word Fell. I've read it before but don't really know the meaning.

Pretty scene.

Julie, sorry about that - sometimes words are so common place locally, one forgets that it is not an international word.

Fell simply means hill. Used in Cumbria and Yorkshire, not sure it is used anywhere else in the country. This picture is of Rydal Water, and that is Rydal Fell behind - but the peak is High Pike.

Another local term is "Beck" which means a stony bed river.

Helen, Yes, a little bit of snow of the tops this year, but a bit of a climb to be in it.

My sister lives in Devon (Torquay), so I often get an update of the weather - warmer than here :-)

Yeah, probably a bit warmer down here than for you guys! It's still a wee bit cool in a morning (or at least at 7am when I leave), but leaving work and even walking home at 6:30, it was mild enough to work up a slight sweat and unbutton my coat!

Talk about a small world! (I mooched a book from someone in West Virginia, through BookMooch, and she had studied in Dartmouth for a few months, in 2003).

Breath-taking scenery, with all the elements of a beautiful landscape. Surprised to see the snow - I sent that to you! LOL
